Sunday morning, three police officers were killed and three others wounded after they responded to a call of a man walking down Airline Highway with a rifle.
According to Col. Mike Edmonson, the Superintendent of the Louisiana Police Department, one of the wounded officers is in critical condition and the other two are in stable condition after receiving nine life-threatening wounds.
According to CNN, the police shooter, who has been identified as 29-year-old Gavin Long, was killed during a shootout with police. As of this moment, the suspect’s motives are unknown.
During a press conference, Obama addressed the shooting and how “nothing justifies violence against law enforcement.”
“We as a nation have to be loud and clear that nothing justifies violence against law enforcement,” Obama said. “Attacks on police are an attack on all of us and the rule of law that makes society possible.”
