During the second day of the Republican National Convention, Chris Cox, a lobbyist who directs the legislative and political actions of the largest and oldest civil rights group in America- the NRA- claimed that if Democrat presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, was a fighter for women’s rights then she wouldn’t be against a woman’s right to protect her own life.
A woman’s right to protect her and her family’s life in her own home, according to Cox, is in question this November.
“Eight years ago the Supreme Court ruled that we have a fundamental, individual right to protect ourselves and our families with a firearm in our own homes,” Cox said. “They should have ruled it nine to nothing but the Second Amendment survived by just one vote. After Justice Scalia’s death, that vote is gone.”
Speaking on Clinton’s stance on a person’s right to bear arms, Cox quoted her, saying that “the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment.”
A Hillary Clinton Supreme Court, according to Cox, would make a person’s right to own a firearm disappear. Cox then explained that a vote in this election isn’t for the next four years but for the next 40 years.
“Voting for Hillary Clinton or not voting is simply not an option,” Cox said.
It’s easy for Clinton to take away a right that she’ll never have to use, Cox said, because for the rest of her life she’ll never have to “think about dialing 911,” because she’ll always have a “good guy with a gun to protect her.” But for the rest of the country, Cox said, the decision to carry arms is not hers to make but every American’s own personal choice.
“For the past 30 years she hasn’t taken a walk, a nap or a bathroom break without a good guy with a gun to protect her,” Cox said. [I]n America, there cannot be one set of rules for the Clinton’s and another set for us.”
Clinton’s problem, according to Cox, is that American women are the fastest growing group of gun-owners.
“Millions [of women] own firearms- millions- and million more are thinking about it,” Cox said. “It’s not Hillary Clinton that says women should have that choice. It’s Donald Trump.”
“[The NRA] fight[s] for the rights of all Americans regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation because the right to protect your life is the most precious right you have.”
“[B]ut we are on the cusp of losing this great American freedom and with it this great nation. The only way we save it- the only way we save it- is by electing Donald Trump as the next President of The United States.”
